Apple fans have claimed it! iPod games will not disappear

The legendary iPod Clickwheel games of the old days will not disappear! A preservation movement called the iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project has been launched.

Some of us will remember the once popular iPod Clickwheel games. Those games, which left their mark on an era, have come back to the agenda thanks to a group of passionate fans who want to make them unforgettable. The games on Apple's classic iPod devices left a mark on many users despite their short-lived golden age. Today, an initiative called iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project has launched a new rescue movement to immortalise those old games.

iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project will automatically back up games

First of all, the preservation movement has been met with great interest by those who believe that iPod games were an indispensable entertainment of an era and offer a legacy worth preserving. The project began when an iPod fan, Quix, discovered that he could bypass DRM protection and copy games from an iTunes backup to another computer.
Quix preserved 19 iPod games from his own archive using this method. He then collaborated with Olsro, whom he met on Discord, to further expand the project. Olsro created a ‘community virtual machine’ using the Qemu emulator.
This virtual machine allows users to securely back up licensed iPod games. So far, the project has been a great success: 42 of 54 games have been secured. These games were some of the most popular titles of their time, and were classics that giant game companies such as EA, Sega and Square Enix sold for $7.49 on the iTunes Store.

However, Apple stopped selling these games in 2011. Nevertheless, game owners can still install existing games on their old devices. However, Olsro, who manages the project, warned against the possibility of Apple shutting down the existing licence servers and urged more fans to support the project.
If these servers go down, games that are not backed up will be irretrievably lost. Therefore, at Olsro's urging, other iPod users took action and began to contribute to the digital archiving effort.
In short, the ‘iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project’ may seem like the effort of a group of nostalgic gamers, but it is actually a big step towards the preservation of digital culture. Thanks to the project, the games that left their mark on an era will be carried to future generations and will remain as an unforgettable legacy.
