Apple takes action against the ban! Will pay 10 million dollars
Apple has taken action to lift the iPhone ban imposed by Indonesia. Accordingly, it will invest 10 million dollars.
We previously mentioned that iPhone 16 sales were banned across Indonesia. While the disagreements between Apple and the Indonesian government are expected to be resolved soon, Apple has finally decided to invest. It will allocate 10 million dollars to the country.
Apple will invest 10 million dollars in Indonesia.
The Indonesian government continues to take a firm stance on the latest generation of Apple devices due to investment disputes with Apple. The country’s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, banned the sale of the iPhone 16, citing non-compliance with regulatory standards.
Minister Kartasasmita stated, “If any iPhone 16 device is detected operating in Indonesia, I can confirm that it is illegal. Report these devices to us.” This decision not only covered the iPhone 16 but also included new Apple products like the 16 Pro series and Apple Watch Series 10.
In response to the crisis, Apple plans to establish a new factory with a $10 million investment. This facility will be launched through a partnership with local suppliers. However, it's unclear whether this investment will meet the 40% local content requirement imposed by President Prabowo Subianto’s administration and lead to the lifting of the ban. Officials are still evaluating the matter.
Google’s Pixel series faces a similar situation. Although Google has remained silent, Apple chose not to take that risk. Given the negative impact of losing a major market like Indonesia, Apple is continuing negotiations, feeling the potential repercussions more acutely than Google.
On the other hand, there are concerns that Indonesia’s policies could deter foreign investments. Earlier this year, import restrictions on various products negatively impacted production for companies like LG Electronics. Additionally, Indonesia's local production share has declined in recent years, raising questions about the effectiveness of the strategies in place.
