The iPhone 17 series hasn't been released yet, but the iPhone 18 Pro camera feature has already leaked!
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has leaked details about the main camera features of the iPhone 18 Pro, even before the iPhone 17 series has been released.
Following the lukewarm reception of the iPhone 16 by users, Apple has reportedly started focusing early on the iPhone 17 and even the iPhone 18. Recently, there have been claims that Apple might have already begun production of the iPhone 17. The latest leaks, however, highlight a new feature of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro.
The iPhone 18 Pro's camera may feature a variable aperture.
For years, many Android phones have incorporated variable aperture cameras, but unlike Android manufacturers, Apple has not been particularly keen on the idea for its main cameras. However, in a recent leak, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro may feature a main camera with a variable aperture. Prior to this, it was expected that the iPhone 17 series would introduce a camera with a variable aperture.
The possibility that the iPhone 17 series could feature a main camera with a variable aperture adds credibility to Ming-Chi Kuo's claims. While Kuo did not go into extensive detail, he mentioned, "My latest industry survey shows that Sunny Optical will be the primary shutter supplier (with Luxshare as secondary) and the second supplier of variable aperture lenses (after Largan Precision). Sunny Optical's advantages include experience in designing and manufacturing variable aperture cameras for Android clients, and their strong position in shutter orders supports expectations for lens orders."
All existing iPhones, including the newly introduced iPhone 16 series, are equipped with fixed aperture cameras. The importance of variable aperture lies in allowing users to control the amount of light entering the camera lens, offering greater flexibility and better photography options in varying lighting conditions. However, Apple has yet to comment on this potential change.
